Today was such an adventure! We went on an excurison highlight tour of Ocho Rios.
Ocho Rios is a port town on the north coast of Jamaica. A former fishing village, it’s now a resort with a cruise ship harbor and a busy bay beach that’s lined with hotels. The surrounding parish of Saint Ann is home to rainforest, rivers and waterfalls. Dunn’s River Falls is a terraced, 180m mountain waterfall with lagoon pools, surrounded by trees.
Our our tour, we we able to venture throgh the bustling streets of Ocho Rios and spend an afternoon exploring the Town’s many shopping arcades and craft markets. We visited Fern Gully, an old river bed, now home to over 500 different species of ferns, before reveling in the floral beauty of Coyaba Gardens. Lastly, we finished the day with a refreshing climb up the magnificent Dunn’s River Falls.
Coyaba Gardens offers a variety of attractions in one location, the Coyaba Botanical Gardens, Mahoe Falls and an Arawak Museum. The word Coyaba is an Arawak word meaning “paradise”. The botanical water gardens feature pools of koi carp, snapper and turtles. One of the pools has a window in the side to watch the fish in their natural environment. There is also a river running through the gardens.
From meeting and getting hold the animals to climbing up a waterfall, this excursion was one for the books!
